Attendances at the Pride Park #SSEWildcats football for Girls session at Moorways have been growing, demonstrating the increasing popularity of the sport among girls - our Wildcats Centre is one of 1,300 centres nationwide, providing football opportunities for over 20,000 Girls aged 5-11. Football is the top participation sport for women and girls in England, with almost 3 million registered players - and with the exposure it will get from the Women’s World Cup it can only grow!

It’s fantastic to see friendships developing amongst the girls and how much they are enjoying their football - which is testament to the work of principal coaches Lizzie and Pearse, with additional support from James and Russell.

The sessions are held every Tuesday 6-7pm on the all-weather pitches at Moorways Stadium, Derby, and provide a safe environment where girls can try football for the first time.

In addition to the regular weekly sessions, our Wildcats have also:

had the opportunity to go to the Women’s FA Cup Final at Wembley and take part in the pre-match parade
experienced matchday, escorting the players out on to the pitch, taking part in the pre-match line up and handshakes, and a penalty shoot out at half time
participated in tournaments and football festivals with other Wildcats Centres

Having successfully retained our accredited FA SSE Wildcats status for a second year, and being Highly Commended in the Derbyshire FA Awards Project of the Year category, we’re aiming to build on the success of the centre so far by:

continuing to provide girls aged 5-11 years with access to regular football in an exciting and open environment with the emphasis on fun, and
developing “pathways” for those girls that wish to play regularly in addition to the weekly sessions, by forming teams to play in the Derbyshire Girls League from next season
