Ladies entertain Wirksworth Colts Women at Moorways on Sunday

The Ladies play their third League fixture of the season on Sunday, when the visitors to Moorways are Wirksworth Colts.

The teams have met on ten occasions in the last four seasons, with honours even at 4 wins each, and 2 draws.

In a remarkable coincidence of fixture scheduling, the teams ended the 2017-18 season by playing each other in four consecutive fixtures, two Cup Finals won by Wirksworth (1-3 and 1-2) and two League games (7-1 and a crazy 6-6 draw!).

Further coincidence followed, when they made it five consecutive fixtures, by playing for the Challenge Shield in the opening fixture of the following season, 2018-19, Wirksworth running out 4-1 winners..

Last season's league fixtures ended in a remarkable 4-4 draw at Wirksworth, and a 3-2 home win for Pride Park at Moorways to wrap the season up.

Wirksworth have made a good start to this season, and after a narrow opening day defeat at Chesterfield Inspire on the opening day, they responded with a 5-0 win against the same opponent at the end of September. On Sunday they made it a second successive league win and clean sheet by beating Draycott Victoria 3-0, to move into 4th in the League, level on points with Pride Park.

The fixture has a history of goals, and should feature two of the League’s leading scorers, Romy Sheppard of Wirksworth and Summer Evans of Pride Park, so an entertaining game is in prospect.

Despite the recent weather, the pitch is bearing up well and, unless there is exceptionally heavy rainfall between now and Sunday, the game will be on. Kick off is at 1.30pm. Refreshments (tea and coffee) will be available.

In the other league fixtures this Sunday, Chesterfield Inspire Blue host Draycott Victoria, and Hasland are home to Mickleover Sports.
