There was joy for the Jaguars in their first Cup Final yesterday

There were only two ‚official’ games for our teams this weekend and both were Cup Finals.

U8 Plate Final: Jaguars vs Wirksworth
Pride Park started the match determined but Wirksworth started quickly and had a shot on goal in the first minute, which was skilfully saved by Rose. Pride Park responded with a determined run and cross from Amber to give Lucy a chance on goal.

Some great defensive cover from Esther kept Wirksworth at bay. Devina came on and worked hard to take the ball forward, positioning herself for those well delivered corners.

Freya having been changed into defence in the past few games, paid off as she read the game well and ran back to clear the ball out of the path of three attackers!

Eventually Pride Park’s determination and persistence paid off when a pass forward to Freya was converted to put the Jaguars ahead.

Half time came and Rose came out swapping with Amber in goal. Throw ins and a great corner from Esther found both Freya and Lucy and they went close to adding to the lead.

Rose made some quality runs through the field passing the ball forward to the attackers with Freya taking advantage to score her second, Rose adding a couple of goals herself.

Devina worked hard to fight for the ball in such a fast paced game. Lucy had a great run forward but was halted by a last ditch tackle, but undeterred she fought to the win the ball back and her efforts finally paid off making a great lead for Pride Park.

The match was very fast paced and being played end-to-end. All the girls were having to run to make the tackles count and regain control of the game.

They’ve all played brilliantly together all season and yesterday they deserved to raise the Plate! Well done Jaguars, we are all so proud of you.

Result: Pride Park 5-2 Wirksworth Colts
Scorers: Rose (2), Freya (2), Lucy

U10 Plate Final: Pride Park v Mickleover
In the u10 Plate Final, there was disappointment for Pride Park who were unable to capitalise on taking an early lead and had to settle for runners-up medals. The experience will be one to learn from and to use to spur the girls on even more.
