Pride Park come out on top in seven goal thriller.

The U12's started the season with a thrilling 4-3 win over the newly formed Field Lane.

The girls began brilliantly, keeping possession and shape, passing the ball well and attacking at speed. After a number of close efforts and some great saves from the visiting 'keeper, their early dominance was rewarded on eight minutes with a goal from Katie Bullock following a slick passing move involving most of the team. Pride Park dominated the midfield and doubled their lead four minutes later after a promising run from Erin Blaney was cut short by a strong tackle by Field Lane. Katie Bullock powered in the resulting free kick giving the keeper and defence no chance.

The third goal, two minutes later, came following a fine solo run and shot from Ellie Travers. Picking up the ball from Georgia Baylis in her own half, Ellie beat three players before finishing low past the keeper to make the score 3-0. Not to be outdone by her sister, the fourth goal came five minutes later in almost identical style from Millie Travers. This time the ball was passed from Ellie Simms on the right wing, Millie ran at the defence of Field Lane who were drawn away by great running off the ball from the Pride Park side and finished with an unstoppable low shot. 4-0.

Field Lane were unbowed by the score line and pulled one back just before half time. 4-1. However, Pride Park were finishing the half strongly and still full of confidence. Unfortunately a foul on Katie Bullock resulting in a lengthy injury delay on the stroke of half time understandably rocked the team and disrupted their flow. One of the strengths and best aspects of this team is their friendship and support for each other. The teams focus during the break was on Katie's welfare and they started the second half with one eye on the side lines. Despite this the team created a number of chances and Field Lanes 'keeper pulled off a succession of saves to keep the goals out.

As the second half progressed Field Lane grew in confidence and attacked regularly. Pride Park were indebted to their strong midfield of Erin, Millie and Maleah Quintana and the stalwart defensive work of Georgia, Ellie and Kiera Bonshor. On 26 minutes 'Keeper Ellie Gray pulled off a fantastic point blank save to keep out a certain goal. This was only bettered by her second save a minute later. Field Lanes pressure eventually paid off when a corner was bundled home to make it 4-2.

A crunching tackle led to a second injury for Pride Park, this time to Maleah, resulting in a change of formation. Field Lane used the change to their advantage and with five minutes to go scored a third with a close range low shot that evaded 'keeper and defence. 4-3.

The final five minutes was an incredibly tense end to end affair with both teams taking turns to attack. Pride Park were unfortunate not to extend their lead following good work from Millie Travers and the recovered Katie Bullock and were indebted to their defence with goal and game saving tackles from Kiera, Ellie Simms, Maleah, and Georgia as well as strong keeping from Ellie.

An exciting and very entertaining start to the season and a great performance from all the players. Player of the match was awarded to the whole team.
