Lionesses bounce back in style - report by Gary Hill

Today we faced Gresley with a much-depleted squad. But wow... how the girls bounced back from last week with a super effort by all. We often talk about the goals which were all hard earned impressive efforts today but I’d really like to mention the following players for an outstanding contribution to today’s game:

Iysla: We really liked your determination and how effective you were at winning the ball in the mid field and how you released the ball forwards, plus great tracking back to keep the pressure when defending.

Ellie: Very good at reading the game and making the right decision. Good under pressure, nicely shielding the ball, turning, passing the ball forwards with confidence and accuracy and as always impressive throws

Edie: Up against a tall opposite player, she didn’t let it phase her and she did well on the wing. We loved your determination, passes and assists – let’s keep that going for next week.

And, we really liked how a lot of the girls were trying to control a high ball: Emily, you tried hard at this today and made some crucial interceptions, often being first to the ball and kicking the ball before it bounced to stop a Gresley attack – well done.

Three totally different goals:
Iysla wins the ball in the midfield and passes wide in front of Edie on the left wing (just like we’ve been practicing in training ?) Edie runs onto it, controls and takes the ball forward. Edie passes from out wide, just in front of Zoe on the edge of the box who takes a couple of touches and fires off a lovely shot for a great team goal - another terrific Zoe strike (we also had 2 other players in an excellent position, overloading the Gresley box).

Jasmine’s ‘go alone super goal!’: Jas receives the ball on the wing in our own half. She drives forwards and kicks the ball around her opposite player to beat them. Her kick is a little strong, so she has to run hard to get to the ball before the next Gresley defender, its 50/50 as Jas and the Gresley defender clash for the ball, she takes another touch forward is almost knocked off her feet, but stays standing, driving forward, she absolutely belts the ball from fairly wide at a tight angle and buries the ball into the roof of the net from a reasonable distance away. Very impressive!

And Myah, who cool as anything, using trickery and magic (and she has a lot of tricks in her arsenal to choose from!), to beat several Gresley players in the box, (including the goalie), to basically dribble the ball into the back of the net in a stunning display of close ball control - best thing was the smile on her face afterwards.

Today’s Player of the Match was Jas
