TEAM TALK | JUNIORS ROUNDUP

A round up of the mini-soccer games played by our teams on Saturday

Our junior teams had their first experience of playing at the new £12m Racecourse Football Hub on Saturday.

Here’s a round up of games three games involving our mini-soccer teams - the report from our new u8 Diamonds first ever game can be found HERE

U9 Pumas v Swadlincote Stars
After a week off last week, we had a few missing with illness this week but this did not put the girls off at all. From the first whistle the girls went straight to work and were instantly on the attack creating chances and making the Swad keeper work. Erin was busy in attack and had several good shots on goal.

With some of the girls playing out of their usual positions, it didn’t show and they went straight at it again, trying to create chances; from a corner, Robyn played the ball in to the centre, Katie caused confusion, and Robyn followed her corner in on the rebound to put in a good shot. Bella picked up the ball near the halfway line and ran towards goal and ended her run with a good shot

Millie was a thoroughly deserving player of the match, after playing in a different position and her endless running all over the pitch making tackles and creating chances.

u10 Jaguars vs Little Eaton Diamonds
Right from the kickoff there was lots of positive forward play by Jaguars, resulting in a number of attempts on goal; hitting the post and shooting just wide. In midfield and defence there was some tenacious tackling which limited the oppositions chances.

Little Eaton came into the game more, but Freya did well to take an early shot, and from an improbable angle Rose had a terrific shot. The game continued with Jaguars creating chances and passing well.

It was a throughly entertaining match with lots of good individual effort leading to a great team performance. Player of the match went to Freya.

U11 Lionesses v Rocester
This was a close and brilliant match to watch, as the comments of the parents bore witness: “Best game I’ve watched, every girl on the pitch gave their all and played amazing, well done girls" (Ian), “It was brilliant super proud of them all” (Lu).

The girls played fantastic as a team, but I'd like to give a special mention to Jess for giving it absolutely everything she's got in an outstanding performance. Myah also merits a special mention, as she captained the team, scored a neatly struck goal with an equally good celebration dance - but best of all was seeing the smile on her face - usually quite a quiet girl so it was really something to see her just loving playing football with her friends around her.
