U11 PLATE FINAL | MATCH REPORT

David Kwiatek6 May - 11:17

So near yet so far for the Jaguars

U11 Plate Final | Pride Park Jaguars 1-2 Woodlands Warriors

The Jaguars took part in the DGLL U11 Plate Final yesterday against Woodlands at the Racecourse. It was a great occasion for the girls in front of a bumper crowd. Unfortunately it just wasn’t to be for the girls and Woodlands came away with a 2-1 win in a very tightly fought contest that could have gone either way.

In the first half, the Jaguars were playing into a strong wind but Freya scored the opening goal, picking up a through ball from Rose to fire past the goalkeeper. The girls had to be alert to several Woodlands attacks as the game continued, but defenders Evelyn, Ava, Tiana and Esther with Alicia in goal kept them at bay. Wren showed her pace to get past the defence but just couldn’t get the ball past the keeper on this occasion as the defenders got back. Then in the final seconds of the first half, Woodlands scored an equaliser via a throw-in and the teams went in at 1-1 at half time.

Woodlands scored again to lead 2-1 in the second half and the Jaguars pushed to grab an equaliser. Holly in defence looked to get the ball forward, Amber came close with a left foot strike that the keeper tipped round the post. Zara, Lucy and Katie attacked down the wings and a chance fell for Rose in the dying seconds who shot and the keeper again managed to palm away.

Overall, it just wasn’t our day but the girls gave it everything and were so close to an equaliser. It’s been a brilliant season full of great memories and progress - on to the world of 9v9 football next season now.
