The Devs kicked off the new season in style with a 4–0 win and a clean sheet in their opening fixture. On a pitch that more closely resembled a jungle, the squad adapted brilliantly and showed composure, energy and teamwork against a spirited Derwent side. Despite being a new team, Derwent fought hard from the first whistle and never gave up.

The breakthrough came just 12 minutes in when Naomi slipped a perfect pass through to Evie, who calmly slotted home to give the Devs the lead.

Twelve minutes later, Blythe announced herself on her debut by finishing a well took goal after linking up well with Paige.

The Devs continued to press, and on 30 minutes Sophie passed a through ball to Sarah, who beat the diving keeper and tucked the ball neatly into the corner for the third goal.

With a three-goal cushion at half-time, the Devs eased off slightly – perhaps one too many fizzy fish! – and allowed Derwent a foothold in the game. The hosts were unlucky not to score when Jess pulled off a fantastic fingertip save to push a strike onto the post.

Despite Derwent’s pressure, the Devs finished strongly. On 85 minutes Blythe capped her debut with her second goal of the match, with a great assist from Bradders to seal a 4–0 win.

It was a truly solid team display, especially at the back where the defensive line stayed organised and disciplined throughout. Naomi earned Player of the Match for her outstanding contribution, while Sayles impressed on her debut in defensive midfield, providing composure and breaking up play effectively.
