Pride Park Devs' first game back since November was always going to be a test, especially straight after the Christmas break — but the team rose to the challenge with intensity and intent.
The Devs started strongly, dominating possession in the Borrowash half and creating multiple chances within the opening minutes. Despite the early pressure, Borrowash managed a rare breakaway, but Jess came to the rescue with a brilliant one‑on‑one with the Borrowash striker to keep things level.
The breakthrough came soon after. Evie burst down the right and delivered a superb cross to the far post, where Blythe arrived perfectly to volley home. The Borrowash keeper got her fingertips to it but couldn’t keep it out.
Still camped in the Borrowash half, Pride Park doubled their lead just four minutes later. Sophie won the ball back, beat two players, wrong‑footed the keeper, and calmly slotted it home — a marvellous solo goal.
Borrowash’s second real opportunity came just before half-time. A speculative long‑range effort looped over Jess and dipped just under the bar, pulling one back before the break.
The second half saw more impressive football from the Devs, who continued to create chance after chance while keeping Borrowash pinned deep. Credit to the Borrowash No.4 and their goalkeeper — several last-ditch tackles and strong positioning denied Pride Park from adding more to the scoreline.
PoTM, chosen by our injured skipper Becky watching from the sidelines: Nerys — outstanding passion, relentless work rate!
Manager’s comments:
“The link‑up play between Rhi and Blythe was fantastic. The midfield three worked brilliantly as a unit, and the defence stayed organised to nullify Borrowash’s threat. Performances like this really show how far we’ve come as a team.”
