We enjoyed watching the end of the U10’s game and cheering on the young and talented Pumas, which set the tone for a great performance by the U12’s team for a thoroughly enjoyable u12 Plate 2nd Round match.
The girls bounced back from last week and held their positions much better, with less bunching up. We set the girls clear targets and they tried hard to reach them. There was outstanding effort and determination from Jasmine; she really made a big impact on the game and we can’t praise her enough for another brilliant performance.
Ayla had a renewed energy about her, and she played the best we’d seen her play this year, getting stuck in, keeping the ball under control and working hard - it was great to see her finish the game happy and smiling. Edie did some fantastic runs down the wing, knocking the ball past the opposition and running onto it, and creating some good forward play for the team. And we really appreciated another solid performance from Sofia in goal; her decision making was excellent, she demonstrated lots of different skills to save numerous shots at goal.
A sturdy game for Emily earnt her player of the match and we were pleased to give a football away to Isabella as a special managers award – she has really levelled up her game and shown excellent progression this season. Well done to the whole team.
Three goals, scored by Zoe, Jasmine and Layla, put the Lionesses 3-0 up at half-time and, although Spondon pulled two back in the second half it’s the Lionesses who go through.
The Lionesses will face Chesapeake Falcons in the quarter-final on 22 March, after they won their tie against beat Belper Town.
