PPFC began their campaign with a composed and controlled start, quickly finding their rhythm. Just nine minutes in, a lovely switch of play from right to left found Isla, who finished neatly to open the scoring. PPFC’s continued determination and rugged defending, from Betsy, Aoife, Patsy, Lillie-Rose and Polly was rewarded again on the 20-minute mark when Emily doubled the lead.
In the closing stages of the first half, PPFC began to sit back a little, with their midfield and frontline occasionally spreading too wide. This gave Sleetmoor a foothold, and after a couple of goalmouth scrambles, the hosts pulled one back two minutes before the break!
After a strong team rally at halftime, PPFC came out with renewed focus, narrowing up their shape and starting the second half ferociously. A series of early attacks helped them regain control and Anya provided two well timed through balls midway through the half — both finished coolly by Emily to complete her hat-trick and seal a 4–1 victory. Sleetmoor battled through out and we saw Lillie-Rose controlling her area of the pitch confidently and playing precise balls down the wing to PPFC's forward players.
It was a solid, professional performance from PPFC, who now advance to the second round of the cup in early November. Player of the Match went to Anya for her strong work rate in midfield, attacking and tracking back. Well done everyone, keep working hard in training and matches.
