The Jaguars fell to defeat today against a strong Matlock side, but the girls put in another good performance, showing great effort throughout and matching their opponents for long spells.
The first half was fairly even, with both teams creating chances, although it was Matlock who struck first. The Jaguars responded well and pushed for an equaliser, with both Rose and Georgie going close with shots at goal. The pressure eventually paid off when Wren reacted at a corner, latching onto the cross to score and bring the match level at 1–1.
In the second half, Pride Park debutant Amelia took over in goal and made several key saves to keep the Jaguars in the game. Unfortunately, two goals proved decisive, giving Matlock a 3–1 lead.
To the girls’ credit, the Jaguars continued to attack and created plenty of chances as they looked for a way back into the match, but it wasn’t to be on this occasion. There were, however, plenty of positives to take from the performance heading into next week.
Player of the Match was Georgie, who in only her second game for the club delivered an excellent performance in midfield, before stepping into defence in the second half and continuing to impress.
