For the first time this season, and with a little help from the Jaguars, we fielded 11 players for the entirety of the match, and had the luxury of a game changer too. First DGLL match for Lexi. First WIN of the season. We enjoyed the match as players from both teams showed off some great football with end-to-end action:

F/H The Gresley team had some fast confident attackers so we had to defend, and not afford them too much time on the ball in front of goal. We did this well and Gresley found it hard to get a shot on target, and with Isabel (GK) gathering up everything else, they couldn’t threaten our goal with too much danger.

We battled hard in the mid field and worked tirelessly to create some forward momentum. Layla M using her speed and agility to good effect was outstanding in the mid, Jasmin and Layla W capitalising with a good couple of goals. Jasmine continuing to show off her excellent goal scoring ability. Isabella and Mollie worked hard on the wings, driving forward and looking for the pass – also both effective at finding space, helped create some good combination play. Mollie nearly scoring too.

S/H Gresley get themselves back into the game scoring 2 decent goals making it 2-2. Zoe and Evelyn worked together and defended with passion / effort and demonstrate some great technique and quality. Evie and Greta were solid, both using their speed and strength to good effect and Ayla (player of the Match), again gave it everything she had. Lexi had a good chance at goal and the PP girls shifted up a gear - they could see gaps and opportunities. Some great attacking play created some excellent chances, with Mollie scoring a critical goal at the right time, this gave the girls confidence and renewed energy. Layla W shows off her confident ball skills and Jasmine skilfully strikes a brilliant goal over the Gresley keeper to complete the game.
What’s excellent, is that the 2 x U13 girls fitted straight in, and played at a level the game demanded – we were very impressed with Evelyn and Mollie. Their help was very much appreciated by the team, and they played a big part in making todays game the success is was.
