The Pumas won their third consecutive game and registered a 3rd clean sheet in 4 games as they battled to a hard fought victory over Mickleover.
In a tense first half, the girls started a little sluggishly and were trying to measure up their opposition who were physical and trying to muscle their way into decent areas but the girls battled whilst trying to find their rhythm. After 10 minutes Millie found some space and lofted a ball which floated over the keeper, hitting a bar and Sophie very nearly got the rebound. Clearly now awake, the girls set about trying to open the scoring, Umayyah, Mini and Tayla were controlling the defence giving Bella T little to do, whilst Poppy, Dela, Bella, Marcie and Millie were battling away trying to wrestle control of the midfield.
The breakthrough finally came when the girls won a throw in, Sophie caused havoc and got the ball out to Poppy who coolly skipped around the defender and slipped the ball into the far corner. The girls tails were certainly up now and Bella tried her luck after a run, with her effort going just wide, then she was unlucky when a route 1 ball from Bella T caused confusion in Mickleover's defence and Bella from 20 yards on the half volley just hit an effort over. Dela was now bossing the midfield and winning battles across the middle allowing Bella, Poppy, Millie and Marcie to push forward with Erin, Enya, Sophie and Amaya all trying to get in on the act upfront.
Into the second half and the game very much like the first was tense, a lot of scrappy, physical play all over the pitch with the defenders alert to snuff out danger, but the midfielders and strikers all looking to add to the lead. Amaya was unlucky when she glanced a corner just wide with a header. Marcie had an effort that the keeper saved and Bella tried her luck but was blocked. From another corner, the ball fell to Poppy who tried to unleash one from the edge of the box but her effort was charged down.
The Pumas were now into their groove though and were creating chances with some lovely build up play and Millie was the next to have an effort after a Bella through ball, Mills effort was saved by the keeper, the ball spinning around caused chaos with Sophie trying to get onto the end of it but the Mickleover defence survived another scare. The game though was put to bed with around 11 minutes left when Bella from range drilled an effort hard and low through a pack of defenders after a scramble. Late on Ivy and Erin both went close with efforts but the girls saw home another victory.
With some brilliant performances again from the girls all over the pitch the parents were asked to name their player of the match and they unanimously decided that their player of the match was Dela for another all round, all action performance driving the team on.
