The girls sadly slipped to only their 2nd defeat of the season after an uncharacteristic performance.
A bright start saw the Pumas take the lead early after Erin closed the keeper down after Woodlands played backwards, forcing the error from the keeper the ball fell kindly to Amaya who slotted home from close range for her second goal in two games. Normally a start like this would spark the girls but it was not to be.
Woodlands, who were comfortable with the ball, were starting to boss proceedings and winning their duels, causing the Pumas a few issues and Lily made a save when called upon. Then a corner for Woodlands was floated in and the Pumas failed to clear their lines and Woodlands capitalised when their attacker somehow using her thigh put the ball into the top corner. 1-1 soon became 2-1 as the girls didn’t look themselves and were punished when some sloppy defending allowed the striker a chance which she took.
After the break the girls started to find their attacking rhythm, Sophie had an effort as well as Erin and Amaya before Dela scored from the edge of the box following an assist from Bella. Now looking to kick on, the Pumas were going forward but not managing to trouble the keeper. Then the sucker punch, the Pumas lost the ball in midfield and the ball went out wide the midfielder hit one low and it went in. The girls clearly dented could not dig themselves out of the hole for a second time and late on found themselves caught again, this time with a long distance effort going into the top corner.
Not to be on the day for the girls who remain top for now but are being chased with teams having games in hand. Dela was once again named player of the match.
